Twenty-year healthcare sales veteran joins leadership team, guides rollout of platform’s new perioperative care offering.

Calcium, a digital health analytics company and creator of the world’s first consumer-driven health platform, today announced the newest member of its leadership team Brian Shannon, who will serve as Managing Partner, Sales. Reporting directly to Calcium’s CEO Terrence M. Ryan, Shannon will be responsible for managing the company’s sales process from start to finish and will work closely with Board member and Managing Partner Sid Bala on strategy, product development, and marketing. Shannon brings with him more than 20 years of experience in healthcare and tech sales for both startups and Fortune 500 companies alike. Most recently he served as Vice President, Sales for the healthcare education company Relias, where he oversaw sales teams, business development partnerships, and sales operations to grow organizational revenue. Shannon has also previously held sales and management positions with AT&T, EMC, Boston Scientific, and Premier Healthcare Alliance.

“Brian comes to Calcium with an incredible breadth of experience that will serve to drive our company’s growth as a leader in the healthtech space. Having worked for large, established corporations, he knows not only how the industry works but also how much room there is for innovation,” said Terrence M. Ryan. “At the same time, Brian’s pedigree with the startup community, including his leadership through his previous employer’s IPO, has given him an understanding of the importance of nimbly responding to the marketplace and its changing needs.”

One of Shannon’s first initiatives will be the rollout of Calcium’s new solution for perioperative care, which expands the digital app’s platform to support patients who are preparing for and recovering from surgery. The new offering will:

  • Utilize video, notifications, and automation, all in one place, so that patients will know what to expect and be able to refer to it on demand
  • Prepare patients and their caregivers seamlessly for recovery at home, proactively reducing call volume to providers while also improving outcomes
  • Deliver a clinical pathway in an easy-to-use and engaging format, helping patients feel informed and empowered to manage their recovery and care
  • Increase the amount of information provided to the patient to lessen the emotional impact of the procedure and thereby improve the provider’s patient satisfaction scores

“In Calcium, I see a company with tremendous growth potential, driven by a dynamic leadership team and the desire to be the opposite of the status quo,” said Shannon. “From a sales perspective, Calcium’s culture of innovation is incredibly exciting because it means that we can say to potential customers, ‘What do you need? How can we develop new offerings to solve the problems you are facing?’ And then we can deliver those solutions. By focusing on customer engagement, I believe we can generate an inbound flow of ideas and create the opportunity for new partnerships, continual product development, and increased revenue for the company.”

A graduate of DePauw University in Greencastle, Indiana, Shannon grew up in Ohio and lived in Chicago for ten years before moving to Charlotte, North Carolina, where he now lives with his wife and two children. His LinkedIn profile can be found at https://www.linkedin.com/in/brian-shannon-3050a11.
